Our ProgramThis College Certificate program provides students with the skills and knowledge required to deliver high-quality, well-defined project solutions. Through applied learning activities, students learn skills and strategies for moving through the project life cycle phases. They develop a critical understanding of management and human resources, project risk and quality, scheduling and software, and contracting and procurement. Students work through the curriculum to develop a project management plan that can be applied to real-life scenarios.The curriculum is based on the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)® developed by the Project Management Institute, Inc.

Students can obtain up to 45 Professional Development Units (PDUs)® towards maintaining their PMI designation for each course completed. For information on the PMI, refer to the. Students are introduced to the fundamental principles of project management, such as project strategy, selection, scheduling, risk management, quality assurance, performance measurement, audit and closure. By participating in discussions, analyzing readings, and conducting preliminary research, students acquire a working understanding of project management knowledge and theory. MGT5079 Project Definition and PlanningDefining and managing a project scope ensures that the project includes all the required work. Students learn practical skills and knowledge related to project definition and planning, creation of a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), resource allocation, development of the project budget and close-out management techniques. Students explore various leadership techniques necessary to control the human dynamic within the project life cycle. Through a series of workshops and exercises, students study the key concepts, tools and techniques for motivating high performance in project teams, such as teambuilding and motivation, leadership and conflict control.
Students develop an understanding of the importance of blending sound project management techniques with effective leadership skills.Pre-requisites: MGT5164 MGT5084 Project Management Scheduling SoftwareProject management software increases the ability of the project manager to work more efficiently. The functions of project planning and scheduling, resource allocation and costing, progress monitoring and reporting are explored in detail. Through the application of project software tools and techniques students develop the skills required to manage successful projects.Pre-requisites: MGT5164 MGT5085 Project Risk and Quality ManagementRisk and control management is of vital importance to an organization in ensuring positive outcomes.
Students explore risk management, starting with planning for risk management, identification and quantification of risks, preparation of risk response strategies and monitoring risk factors. Through group discussions and applied exercises students develop an understanding of the functions of quality assurance, control and improvement in projects.Pre-requisites: MGT5079 and MGT5164 MGT5086 Contracting and Procurement in Project ManagementThe project procurement and contracting process defines agreements between vendors and clients. Topics such as procurement, conducting a tendering process, negotiating and administering contracts are explored. By participating in discussions, analyzing readings and conducting research, students develop an understanding of the legal implications of contracts as they relate to project success.Pre-requisites: MGT5164 MGT5087 Directed Studies in Project ManagementEffective project managers are strategic in their approach to project planning. Students apply their knowledge of project management skills and theory to an independent, self-directed applied project.
